A proposal to build a megacity in Saudi Arabia is expected to feature a famous waterfront akin to London’s. As per an Al-Arabiya article, the city of Marafy is stated to be constructed to the north of Jeddah and consists of a mixed-use land development. The report from the outlet went on to say that it will include a man-made waterway in the middle that is seven miles (11 km) long and can hold 130,000 people. Built with support from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Marafy is being built by ROSHN Group.
The creators of the megacity claim that the concept is to integrate a marine environment into the center of a historic city that has long been a destination for pilgrims, visitors, and traders. Al-Arabiya stated that numerous distinct districts would encircle the navigable canal, which is 11 kilometers long and 100 meters broad. It connects to and extends Obhur Creek.
David Grover, Group CEO of ROSHN Group, stated in a release that “Marafy will be a game-changer on the real estate development sector, raising the bar of development in the region, boosting the quality of life, and creating a huge impact in Jeddah.”
“Marafy is one of the iconic projects that will establish Jeddah as a top travel destination,” he continued. A multimodal transportation system comprising buses, subways, and water taxis will link the canal’s waterfront neighborhoods to one another and the rest of Jeddah. A direct connection to King Abdulaziz International Airport will also be available.

With a $500 billion budget, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) is promoting Neom as a city that would revitalize Saudi Arabia’s economy and act as a testing ground for technologies that may transform daily life.
