Canada has announced that nursing aides and orderlies from all over the world can now easily immigrate to Canada via FSWP(Federal Skilled Worker Program) that comes under the Express Entry System.
Nurse aides and orderlies work by assisting nurses, physicians, and other healthcare workers. By offering basic care to patients and helping them transported in wheelchairs, and on stretchers for surgery and treatments.
Announced on November 16, when IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) added around 16 new jobs to the list of eligible occupations under the worker immigration program. That has further increased the number of eligible occupations under the FSWP on the same day of the NOC (National Occupational Classification) 2021.
The sixteen new occupations that have been added are all to be jobs for which a worker must have a college diploma, more than six months of job training, or an apprenticeship training of fewer than two years.
Here is the list of 16 newly added jobs on the list of eligible occupations that come under the FSW:
- NOC 13102 Payroll administrators
- NOC 33100 Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants
- NOC 33102 Nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates
- NOC 33103 Pharmacy technical assistants and pharmacy assistants
- NOC 43100 Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants
- NOC 43200 Sheriffs and bailiffs
- NOC 43201 Correctional service officers
- NOC 43202 By-law enforcement and other regulatory officers
- NOC 63211 Estheticians, electrologists, and related occupations
- NOC 73200 Residential and commercial installers and servicers
- NOC 73202 Pest controllers and fumigators
- NOC 73209 Other repairers and servicers
- NOC 73300 Transport truck drivers
- NOC 73301 Bus drivers, subway operators, and other transit operators
- NOC 73400 Heavy equipment operators
- NOC 93200 Aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors
Nurse aides and orderlies are like the lifeblood of any nursing home or hospital. As they are the people who assist doctors, physicians, patients, and other hospital staff.
In light of these jobs, IRCC said yes to the nursing association’s call. To call for more healthcare workers with Federal Skilled Worker Program changes.
Their daily tasks include answering call signals, supplying empty bedpans, serving the meals while assisting the patients in consuming them, and dressing and grooming the patients. Furthermore, they also assist a patient in maintaining their blood pressure and temperature. They also are highly helpful in providing first aid and recording or reporting the fluid intake or output. They help in transporting patients, reporting between different departments, as well as maintaining inventories of medical supplies.
The Federal Government’s Job Board, Jobbank provides a ranking for employment prospects of nurse aides and orderlies across Canada. Talking about the job websites, they listed more than 1,100 jobs for healthcare workers in late November. CNA(Canadian Nurses Association) will prioritize human resources that are present in the healthcare sector. As well as addressing the shortages of healthcare workers across the country.
The president of Canada, Sylvian Brousseau stated that “We are seeing patients in Canada facing longer and longer wait times for medical and surgical procedures, while also facing increasing challenges to access the care they need. He also added, “Just over these past few weeks, we have witnessed many stories of emergency departments shutting down or reducing their hours of operation in many parts of the country. The reason for this crisis is very clear: Canada is facing a severe health workforce crisis and nursing shortages.”
Immigration minister Sean Fraser said that “We are using all of the tools at our disposal to tackle labor shortages, particularly in key sectors like healthcare, construction, and transportation.”
The nurses’ association went to an extreme state to depict the sustainability of Canada’s healthcare system that could not be maintained without putting further investment in the healthcare workforce. For these eligible occupations that come under the FSWP, Ottawa is hoping to treat the healthcare system of the country.
On the other hand, Canada is using every method possible to resolve this labor shortage happening in Canada.
Sean Fraser also added, “These changes will support Canadians in need of these services and they will support employers by providing them with a more robust workforce who we can depend on to drive our economy forward into a prosperous future. I’m thrilled to announce expanded pathways to permanent residence in Canada for these in-demand workers.”
There are various foreign nationals that are hoping to apply for Canada PR (Permanent Residence) through the FSWP. However, they must have a year of paid work experience within the last decade in jobs. They are categorized as TEER 0, 1,2, or 3 of the NOC (National Occupation Classification) 2021 system.
