NEOM: The Big Futuristic City Project Facing Challenges

NEOM is a combination of the Greek word NEO (new) and M, which stands for both Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the initial letter of the Arabic word Mustakbal (the Future).

It is a big futuristic city project that is capturing attention worldwide.

NEOM promises to be a city unlike any other, with cutting-edge technology, sustainable design, and a focus on the quality of life for its residents.

In making this project a reality, a lot of workforces is required. The contracts for this project are offered to many big firms to construct this dream Neom project. Saudi Arabia’s massive engineering project won’t use fossil fuels or have no streets, cars, or carbon emissions. It will run entirely on sustainable energy.

According to one of the recent reports, in NEOM, around 20% of the infrastructure work has been finished.

In this blog, we will dive deep into this ambitious project’s details, vision, challenges, and innovations driving it forward.

Now, the question is, NEOM being the biggest current project in Saudi Arabia, what are the challenges it is facing?

The NEOM project is facing some challenges, including a labor shortage for construction. It seems that the contracts for these big projects have been given to many big firms, one of which includes the Scandinavian Industrialized Building System (SIBS).

According to the company’s announcement, it has signed an Engineered Equipment Supply Contract for the mega project, which covers 2,174 residences spread across 35 buildings.

The housing units, which are part of NEOM’s main staff housing and office cluster, will satisfy the needs for housing for those working on the mega project’s engineering, planning, and construction.

Dynamic Staffing Services plays a major role in fulfilling the requirements for the big firms in recruiting the right talent and providing the workforce for the construction work that is going on in NEOM.

By the third quarter of 2024, SIBS will complete and commission the bottom slab and deliver the turn-key buildings, according to the announcement.

The statement claimed that these buildings would attain a very high level of energy efficiency thanks to rooftop solar panels and an effective building system. The structures meet NEOM requirements and are made to be moved if necessary for the project to spread to other areas.

It’s not surprising that labor is in short supply, given the scale of the project. If you are also a company looking for skilled workers for your construction projects, Dynamic Staffing Services is there to fulfill the demand.
