The number of third-country workers who can be hired more easily in Lithuania based on their profession of shortage has been set at 40,250 for the upcoming year.
Set by Social Security and Labour Minister Monika Navickienė last Friday on 15th, Dec, the 2024 quota comprises 25,100 people in the building and haulage business, 9,800 in the industry, 5,050 in agriculture, and 300 in haulage and other service organizations.
Once the previously allowed quota for hiring truck drivers from third countries ran out, the government increased this year’s quota by 4,300 on November 28.
After the quota is reached, firms can still engage foreign nationals in the listed professions; however, they will need to apply to the Employment Service for a work permit that will cost more than 100 euros or for a determination of work compliance.
