Canada stands out as one of the best immigrant-friendly countries in the world. Thousands of aspirants immigrate to Canada, hoping for better career opportunities and exposure. And over time, Canada has increased its immigration targets. By the end of 2025, 1.5 million new immigrants will be admitted to Canada through different immigration pathways. Amongst all the programs, Express Entry stands as the easiest and fastest pathway to immigrate to Canada in 2023.
In order to enter Canada on a PR visa through Express Entry, you need to understand the Canada immigration points system first. Whenever you come across the “Canada Immigration Points System,” you are referred to the comprehensive ranking system. To immigrate to Canada, you need a Canada immigration points equivalent to or higher than the cut-off. Also, you must note that you get the points only when you aim to apply for PR through Express Entry.
What is the “Canada Immigration Points System” under Express Entry?
There are three programs effective under the Express Entry System, commonly known as FSWP, FSTP, and CEC. Candidates need to meet the requirement of either program to be eligible for Express Entry. However, you must note that all these programs have different eligibility criteria. Therefore, it is advised that before you start the process, ensure you are meeting the eligibility criteria of any program that comes under Express Entry.
Please, go through the below-listed eligibility criteria for each program. It will help you to determine with which program you stand in line. Whatever program you choose to proceed with, make sure you follow the step-by-step process.
FSWP: FSWP stands for Federal Skilled Worker Program, which is responsible for bringing the highest number of economic immigrants to Canada. Thousands of skilled foreign workers come to Canada through this program each year. In order to get the Canadian PR through this program under Express Entry, please go through the below-listed eligibility criteria for this program:
- To be eligible for this program, you need to gain 67 points out of 100 in the FSWP assessment grid.
- You must have at least 1 year of work experience within the last 10 years in the occupation listed under NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.
- Additionally, 1 year of work experience should be paid.
- You must have CLB 7 in either official language of Canada.
- The minimum education requirement for this program is graduation or equivalent level of qualification. However, you will secure extra points if you have obtained a higher education degree or diploma
CEC: CEC stands for Canadian Experience Class. This program under Express Entry is perceived as appropriate for candidates with Canadian work experience. If you hold Canadian work experience in any occupation, you may consider applying for a Canadian PR visa through this program. Although before you apply, please have a look at its core requirements:
- You must have at least 1 year of full-time, paid, Canadian work experience within the last 3 years.
- Also, your occupation must be present under NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.
- Candidates with work experience in an occupation listed under NOC TEER 0 and 2 need CLB 7 in either Canadian official language.
- On the other hand, if you possess work experience in an occupation listed under NOC, TEER 2 and 3 require CLB 5 in any official language.
FSTP: FSTP is the acronym for Federal Skilled Trade Program. This program under Express Entry invites foreign candidates with work experience in skilled trades. So, if you are a semi-skilled worker, you can opt for this program to immigrate to Canada. If you satisfy the needs of this program, you can rely on it for the Canadian PR visa:
- In order to be suitable for this program, you require 2 years of full-time and uninterrupted work experience out of the last 5 years.
- You must note that your occupation must be under the key groups of NOC TEER 2 and 3.
- You must have a Canadian job offer for at least 1 year which should be paid and full-time.
- Along with the Canadian job offer, you need a certificate of qualification in a skilled trade in which you have work experience from either the federal or provincial government.
- You must have CLB 5 in speaking and listening in any of the official languages of Canada.
- On the contrary, you need CLB 4 in the writing and reading segment in either French or English to fulfill the language requirements of this program.
Note: These three programs come under Express Entry with different eligibility criteria. Therefore, pick the program you stand in line respectively. If you choose a pathway for which you don’t support the eligibility, you would not be qualified for the Express Entry pool. Amongst all programs, FSWP holds straightforward eligibility criteria that are easy to meet. The other 2 programs demand Canadian job offer and work experience, which might be hard to meet if you are outside Canada.
How many Canada PR Points do You Need to be Eligible for FSWP?
Once you have qualified for any program, you will be entered into the EE pool of applicants with a CRS score. The Canadian government uses the Comprehensive Ranking System to find candidates who are more likely to settle in Canada smoothly. You get the CRS score based on several factors such as age, work experience, language ability, etc. The higher you achieve, the higher your chances are for getting an ITA during an Express Entry draw.
Your selection for the ITA entirely depends on your CRS score. If you hold a CRS score equivalent to or higher than the cut-off, you will receive an ITA for the Canadian PR. It is not easy to predict how many Canadian PR points you exactly need to get an ITA. The cut-off fluctuates every time IRCC conducts a draw. The cut-off may go up and down every time during a draw. Therefore, you should always aim to score CRS as high as possible.
How to Score 67 Points out of 100 for FSW Program under Express Entry?
As indicated above, the core requirement for the FSWP is 67 points. To be qualified for this program, you need at least 67 points out of 100. These points are allotted to you based on the following factors:
- Age
- Work experience
- Language ability
- Arranged employment
- Education
The points will be allotted to you based on these factors. You will be accepted for the program if you are competent enough to score 67 or higher. In case you are not able to meet the requirements of the program, you can opt for various tactics to raise your points, such as:
