Israel Increases Foreign Worker Quota by 14,300 to Address Labor Shortage

Israel is currently facing a significant labor shortage. To address this pressing issue, the Israeli government has made a strategic decision to increase the quota for foreign workers by 14,300. This move is aimed at filling critical gaps in various sectors, ensuring that essential services continue to function smoothly and that infrastructure projects can proceed without delays.

Sectors Benefiting from the Increased Quota

The additional 14,300 foreign workers have been carefully allocated to satisfy the demands of multiple important sectors, including:

  • Nursing Facilities: The Health Ministry will oversee the employment of up to 2,750 foreign workers in nursing facilities. This increase is essential to meet the rising demand for healthcare services, particularly given the aging of the population, and the additional burden that the conflict is placing on healthcare resources.
  • Welfare and Social Affairs: The Welfare and Social Affairs Ministry will manage a quota of 1,550 foreign workers specifically for nursing facilities. This effort aims to enhance the quality of care provided to the elderly and disabled, ensuring that these vulnerable groups receive the attention and support they need.
  • Transport Infrastructure: An allotment of 5,000 foreign workers has been designated for the transport infrastructure sub-sector. This is a critical move to ensure the timely completion of ongoing and future infrastructure projects, which are vital for the country’s economic growth and mobility.
  • Refurbishment Contractors: Another 5,000 foreign workers will be employed in the refurbishment sub-sector. This allocation will help meet the high demand for skilled labor in renovation and construction projects, contributing to the maintenance and improvement of Israel’s built environment.

The Role of the Committee of Directors General on Foreign Workers

The decision to increase the foreign worker quota was made by the Committee of Directors General on Foreign Workers. This committee plays an important role in assessing the labor needs of the country and making informed decisions to address shortages. The committee’s approval of the additional 14,300 foreign workers is a testament to the government’s commitment to maintaining economic stability and ensuring the continuity of essential services.
