The innovative project NEOM, which aims to build a sustainable metropolis in Saudi Arabia’s northwest, has been awarded a contract by Xendee, the world authority in microgrid decision support. When organizing and carrying out microgrid and renewable energy programs, Xendee will offer its experience to help NEOM.
NEOM, which stands for “new future,” has attracted talent from 86 different nations and wants to build a sustainable and environmentally friendly city. NEOM is a leader in the switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, with thousands of employees already residing and working on-site.
With innovations like solar panels, storage systems, and hydrogen, Xendee’s main goal is to help NEOM transition to an infrastructure based on renewable energy. It aligns with NEOM’s bold plans to achieve total reliance on renewable energy, build a city devoid of traffic, vehicles, and pollution, and protect the vast majority of the planet’s territory for its diverse natural ecosystems.

The CTO and co-founder of Xendee, Michael Stadler, was excited to support NEOM’s goals for renewable energy. Based on efficiency and cost-effectiveness, the platform from Xendee enables rapid techno-economic assessments to identify the best possible mix of renewable energy sources, energy storage, and smart grids. This strategy guarantees that NEOM will be able to meet its sustainable energy goals while reducing costs and maximizing return on investment.
With the first destinations to launch in 2024, NEOM is already in the development phase. Over the ensuing years, various parts of the project will be operational as it will be finished in stages. One million people are expected to live there by 2030; as the community develops, that number will likely increase to nine million by 2045.
