In the first-ever category-based Express Entry draw for occupations in agriculture and agri-food, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has sent out 600 invitations to apply (ITAs). The cut-off Comprehensive Ranking System score for applicants was 354. Focusing on applicants with industry expertise, such as agricultural service contractors, farm supervisors, and retail and wholesale butchers will aid the industry in attracting the qualified people it needs across the nation. In 2022, Canada’s agriculture and agri-food sector exported food and agricultural goods worth close to $92.8 billion to other countries.
The third Express Entry draw of the week took place. 500 applicants with a minimum CRS of 472 were invited from the French-speaking proficiency category on September 27.

Six new categories for high demand professions for immigrants were launched. The five highly demanding occupations are:
- Healthcare
- STEM professions
- Trades
- Transport
- Agriculture and agri-food
IRCC has staged draws in each of these above categories since the first category-based draw for healthcare employees on June 28. Candidates with strong French language skills have received the most category-based ITAs (6,900). To be eligible for category-based selection, applicants must be in the Express Entry pool and have a minimum CRS score.
