The recently held Express Entry draw number 263 granted 3200 ITAs to the candidates. The invitations were issued to applicants possessing a minimum CRS score of 531. Notably, this draw shows a significant decline in invitations compared to the last draw.
Since the beginning of category-specific draws, a total of seven such (category-specific) draws have taken place alongside 5 ‘All program Draws’ (including the latest one). These draws have been categorized into four distinct areas: STEM occupations, Healthcare occupations, French speakers, and Trade Occupations. The category that has garnered the most attention thus far is the Francophone category, which has seen a substantial count.

What is a Category-Based Draw?
In the category-based draws, candidates can receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) with specified skills, training, or language ability. This enables applicants with the most in-demand talents to be selected for Permanent Residency in Canada.
This year, Express Entry Candidates with skills or expertise in one of the following disciplines or good French language skills will be prioritized:
- Healthcare
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) professions
- Trades (such as Carpenter, Plumbers, and Contractors)
- Transport
- Agriculture
To qualify, candidates must have at least six months of work experience in a relevant occupation in the previous three years. In addition to category-based draws, the IRCC will continue to organize all-program draws like this one and program-specific draws as needed.
What is Express Entry?
The Canadian government uses Express Entry to administer applications for Canadian Permanent Residency. Express Entry ranks candidates’ profiles using a point-based system known as the CRS. The system oversees three primary programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
- Federal Skilled Trade Program (FSTP)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Applying for Express Entry requires two steps. The first step is to submit your Expression of Interest Application to the Express Entry pool. You can submit your entire application to the IRCC after submitting a profile and receiving an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residency.
