There have been some updates on the employment available to foreign employees in Denmark. And with that, it brings a whole bunch of opportunities for skilled workers to relocate to their dream country. Being a non-EU worker is now simpler due to the continent’s widespread labor shortages.
To draw in top talent from outside, Denmark is the newest nation to relax its immigration laws. The Scandinavian country is making it simpler for businesses to hire non-EU workers by decreasing minimum income requirements, expanding its work visa fast-track program, and opening up more jobs to foreigners.
Additionally, it is extending the time limit for international students studying nationwide to look for employment after receiving their university degrees. The Danish Aliens Act modifications that the parliament approved on March 23 took effect on April 1.
Which positions are available to foreign workers in Denmark?
Danish workers are in limited supply, as in many other European nations. According to the European Commission, Denmark’s businesses experienced difficulties hiring new employees in 42% of cases during the first three months of 2022.
The “Positive List for People with a Higher Education” and the “Positive List for Skilled Workers,” both list occupations lacking workers in the nation, were revised on July 1 in Denmark.
Applying for a Danish residency and work visa is possible if you are given a job on one of these lists. Successful candidates will be subject to the same employment conditions as Danish nationals.
In this nation, employers there are facing difficulties in recruiting degree-educated professionals in research, engineering, healthcare, education, and finance. The employment roles on the lists will stay for two years, even if the listings are updated twice a year. The employment added to the list on July 1, 2023, will be eligible until June 30, 2025.
A wide variety of professions are represented on the revised Skilled Workers list, including associate professionals and clerks in science, engineering, commerce, administration, bookkeeping, and social care. It also comprises industries like food production, building, metalworking, beauty services, and trades.
The employment opportunities on the Positive List for Skilled Work are now only available through December 31, 2023, in contrast to the Positive List for People with a Higher Education.

Can foreigners easily get employment in Denmark?
Denmark is making it simpler for businesses to hire people from other countries and broadening the range of job titles that foreigners are eligible to apply for. So that more positions are available to foreign nationals, the pay threshold will be decreased.
Under the new standard, foreign nationals will be qualified to apply for work and residency visas, which is DKK 375,000 (€50,344). The previous value was DKK 465,000 ($62,434). Companies in Denmark who wish to hire foreigners may request expedited certification. They benefit from faster work permit processing and more flexible employment terms.
When applying for this accreditation, businesses needed 20 full-time employees. By reducing the threshold to 10 employees, the proposed modifications allow more businesses to participate in the program.
Danish entrepreneurs’ start-up program is also being expanded. Only business owners looking to launch a new enterprise in the nation were eligible in the past. It was expanded to include business owners who currently have a location in Denmark and those who have a location outside of the country but want to establish a branch there as of April 1.
The new changes anticipate a shortage of skilled workers in Denmark, and their government is relieving its laws to hire foreign workers.
