Germany Facing Growing Labor Shortage in Numerous Professions

According to the Federal Labour Agency, one-sixth of all professions in Germany, the country with the largest economy in Europe, are experiencing a labor shortage crisis.

The most recent research claims a labor shortage in the past year is 200 of the roughly 1,200 occupations assessed. 148 professions reported a workforce shortage in 2021. Hence this statistic reflected a considerable increase.

According to the latest report, several new occupations have been added to the list of lacking qualified workers, including those in metallurgy, bus diving, and customer support positions.

It is getting mentioned that it is difficult for child care, nursing, automotive technology, and the construction industry to find candidates for open positions. Germany is having trouble filling jobs requiring truck drivers, architects, pharmacists, and information technology specialists to keep the situation under control. The report stated that it is monitoring 157 additional professions.

In addition to those already mentioned, there is a mismatch between the supply and demand for labor, noting that only about 26% of competent job seekers were actively pursuing possibilities in industries with worker shortages over the previous year.

To address this issue, the German government has already begun to take action to entice qualified employees from outside the European Union. It is anticipated that Germany is looking to take skilled workers from India and Brazil.

The German Federal Foreign Minister and the Employment Minister will visit Brazil this year to facilitate the entry of additional Brazilian nurses for employment-related reasons. Germany intends to make it easier for Indian IT workers to work there, according to the German government.
