The IRCC conducted the latest Express Entry draw on July 5, 2023, and issued 700 ITA to candidates. The latest Express Entry (EE) draw was an all-program draw wherein candidates from all three program meeting the cut-off were invited to apply for Permanent Residency Visa. There are three programs operational under Express Entry, popular as FSWP, FSTP, and CEC.
In contrast to the all-program draw, the IRCC brings program-specific draws too. In the program-specific draw, candidates from the specific program meeting the minimum requirements are invited to apply for the PR visa.
In order to attain an ITA for applying for a PR visa, the minimum CRS requirement was 511. Candidates from all three effective Express Entry programs meeting the CRS of 511 got an ITA in the draw carried out on July 4, 2023. This draw came out as a surprise draw. The IRCC usually sticks to a pattern of conducting a draw once every two weeks.
Recently, the IRCC said they would invite around 1,500 candidates by conducting a category-based draw on July 5, 2023. Along with this, in the soon future, the IRCC will be bringing candidates with work experience in (STEM) occupations through the first-ever category-based draw for STEM professions. However, the minimum CRS requirement still remains under the table.
500 healthcare professionals with a minimum CRS score of 476 were invited via the first-ever Express Entry category-based draw. The first-ever Express Entry draw was held by IRCC last week on June 28. On that same day, the IRCC made the announcement that this week’s category-based Express Entry round would include STEM occupations.
A CRS score 511 in the latest Express Entry was the highest in any draw for the 2023 cycle. This score is higher than the draw that was conducted on June 27, by which 4,300 candidates were invited.
Category-based Draws: A New Type of Express Entry Draw
The federal government has introduced a new type of “draw,” known as category-based draws. Through this new kind of draw (Category based draws), applicants with work experience in particular occupations or supporting any in-demand factors will be invited to apply for a Canadian PR visa. The primary objective of introducing a new type of draw is to fulfill the economic requirements seamlessly and frequently.
The IRCC has created 6 new categories for which you might be eligible:
- Healthcare
- Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
- Trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
- Transport
- Agriculture and agri-food
After amendments to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act that took effect in June 2022, selection draws based on categories have become available. The amendments offer the immigration minister the ability to offer invitations to economic immigrants based on a particular characteristic that supports Canada’s economic interests or would advance the French language outside of Quebec.
Remark: As you already know, Canada has been battling against workforce shortage for a long time. And over time, especially after the pandemic, the workforce shortage has worsened. Every sector reports the scarcity of professional workers throughout canada. In order to grapple with the workforce shortage effectively, the Canadian government is using immigration as an effective tool. The government of Canada has increased immigration targets drastically to fulfill its economic and demographic goals.

What is Express Entry System?
Express Entry System was launched by the federal government back in 2015 to filter out the most qualified candidates for Canadian PR. This system works to manage the application of three major economic programs known as FSWP, FSTP, and CEC. Canadian PR aspirants can apply for a PR visa through any program effective under Express Entry. However, you must note that each economic program offers a different set of eligibility criteria. Therefore, you should opt for a program you stand in line.
Once you qualify for any of its programs, you will be taken to the pool of applicants with a CRS score, commonly known as the Express Entry pool. You get a CRS score based on multiple factors, including age, qualification, work experience, adaptability, etc. The higher your CRS is, the higher your likelihood of getting selected.
If you have got a CRS score equivalent to or higher than the cut-off, you will get an ITA from the IRCC to apply for the PR visa. After receiving the ITA, you are bound to submit the application to the federal government within 60 days with all required documents. As soon as the federal government gets your application for the PR visa, they will thoroughly analyze your application to cross-check the information you provided. If approved, you will get “confirmation of Permanent Residency.”
Before you start the process for Canada immigration, you must figure out the program with which you stand in line. As listed earlier, each pathway offers you a different set of eligibility criteria. Therefore, check the eligibility of the program you are applying through.
